Lucky Strike Restaurant - Portland's Hidden Chinese Food Gem!

Not too long ago, the Hubby and I were sitting around when suddenly he sat back with a sigh and said "Man, I want some chinese food." I wasn't in the mood for cooking so I started suggesting different places but he wanted to try some place new.

He pulled out his iPhone and started searching for Chinese Food Restaurants in Portland Oregon. Finally, he found a place that got some great reviews on Willamette Weekly, OregonLive.com and Portland Monthly. Taking a leap of faith we decided to go try it out.

If you didn't know it was there, you would drive right past it and we did, TWICE! It's located on the corner of Ceaser Chavez Blvd and Hawthorne Blvd directly across from Fred Meyers. The reason we didn't see it was because the only sign outside large enough to read was for the Hawthorne Theater (they are in the same building). Once we figured out we were in the right place, we walked into the foyer and looked around. Where was the restaurant? With the large set of stairs to our right we thought maybe it was upstairs. Nope.

We came back down and noticed a small door. It was worth a shot. We walked through it and BAM! Lucky Strike Restaurant.

The room was small but appealing and busy. Always a good sign. We were seated quickly, given our menus and within a few minutes we were ready to order. Our food came quickly and with one bite we were in heaven! The food was fresh, savory and not greasy like we were used to with the regular run of the mill chinese food. Here is our ratings for Lucky Strike:

PRICING: Inexpensive
You won't be paying much more than $12 for a plate. (Some exceptions apply of course)

SERVICE: 8.5 out of 10.
Staff was very friendly and helpful with helping us decide what to get.

ATMOSPHERE: 8 out of 10
The restaurant is pretty small as you can see from the picture above however I like it that way. Less people means less noise (for the most part anyway). They have projector play old asian films with sub-titles so you can enjoy dinner and a movie. Downside is since it's so great but so small you may get stuck waiting awhile to be seated.

RECOMMENDED FOOD:
Crispy Sweet and Sour Chicken ~ a perfectly balanced sweetness with a hint of ginger

KungFu Fried Rice ~ a kick of spicy that doesn't mask the flavorful undertones

RECOMMENDED DRINK:
The Hot Rita ~ lime and cilantro with Thai chili hornitos to kick those tastebuds in to gear

Overall, if you're looking for really great inexpensive chinese food in the Portland area than Lucky Strike is a great place to try.
